We here at the Howl at the Moon’s corporate headquarters in Chicago, IL would like to sincerely apologize to all Indianapolis Colts fans that took offense to the comments made by our General Manager of our Indianapolis Howl at the Moon location. Our General Manager’s intentions were not to insult the fans of the Indianapolis Colts, but after reviewing his comments, he certainly wishes he could turn back time and change what he said. Mike Augustinos is a terrific General Manager and he asks that Colt fans will accept his apology. The organization of Howl at the Moon completely supports our General Manager during this situation. We are in the business of giving people a good time, and we would never intentionally do anything to disrespect our fans.
The City of Indianapolis has given us a wonderful home over the years, and we will continue to provide you with drinks, amazing music, and a great time.
To the fans of the Indianapolis Colts and the fans of Howl at the Moon:
I wanted to pass on a sincere apology to all of you for the recent posting related to this weekend’s game. My comments never stated anything negative nor were they meant to be interpreted negatively about Colts fans. I just the same as many of you, am passionate about my team. My comments about “horrible tailgating” were not intended to reflect negatively on the City of Indianapolis, The Indianapolis Colts, nor the fans. I made a bad choice in words when comparing Indianapolis to several other cities that I have been to for NFL games. I was only referring to the sheer size and area that which the tailgating is available takes place in. The fans are great and I have experienced many great times during while tailgating for the Colts games, an activity which I have both endorsed and organized on several occasions, with my friends. My reference to “it sucks living in Colts country” was also a bad choice of words. I was referring to not being around other Ravens fans during game day. On game day, I would enjoy being able to be where the team I have been a fan of for many years is playing. I do love the City of Indianapolis. There are many great things about the city and I choose to live here because it is a beautiful city and a great place to live. If there is one thing that I have learned since I moved here 5 years ago, it is “Hoosier Hospitality”. I embrace it and am part of it. The comments made by me were my own opinions and not those of my employer, Howl at the Moon. Howl at the Moon is a very successful bar and we owe all of that to the thousands of people we have shared good times, laughs, and memories with over the last 5 years. The employees of Howl at the Moon, which grew up here as Colts fans, all wear Colts gear every home game weekend. Howl at the Moon is and will continue to be supportive of the Colts, just as we have been for the last 5 years. We have Colts signs and banners up just as every bar downtown does. It is not fair to the employees of Howl at the Moon who work hard and are Colts fans. This negativity is not their fault. It is mine alone. Please accept my sincere and earnest apology with open arms and understand that I love my “Hoosiers”. Howl at the Moon is open to ALL fans this weekend. Should the Colts go on to the AFC Championship, you can be assured that Howl at the Moon will do something special for all of Colts fans. Should the Colts win, I have agreed to get right on stage and put on a Peyton Manning jersey in submission and support the Colts.
Sincerely,
Mike Augustinos
General Manager

Howl in the News
The bar, which has locations in Florida, Texas and California, opens Friday, Oct. 16, in the heart of the nightlife hub in Old Town Scottsdale. It takes up shop in the former club Lyte, bringing a new concept to the area.
“We have always been interested in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area, and we though it would be a perfect fit for the community there that is a vibrant one,” said Jimmy Bernstein, CEO and owner of Howl at the Moon.
The Valley is no stranger to dueling piano bars. The popular Big Bang Bar is on Mill Avenue in Tempe and the Shout! House is at Glendale’s Westgate City Center. Both bring in big crowds, especially on weekend nights. Bernstein said there are aspects that make Howl at the Moon unique.
“We started 20 years ago and have been evolving our show ever since,” he said. “We focus on our music very much and creating an energy in the room.”
And Howl at the Moon hires performers who can play a variety of drums, guitars, horns and other instruments to back pianos. Synthesizers or a keytar may even be spotted.
The cocktail menu, the same in every city, offers cocktails with such names as the 3-Way, Pear-Otica and X-Boyfriend.
Although a big part of a dueling piano bar is to honor people’s song requests, Bernstein said it is important to keep things fresh every night.
“We get most of the same requests every night,” he said. “Someone who returns doesn’t want to see the same thing . . . It’s the piano player’s interpretation of the crowd that dictates what the mood and tempo will be.”
But it’s unlikely that people who return the same week won’t hear Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” more than once, which both Bernstein and Scottsdale’s general manager Chris Kelly agree is the most requested and played tune.
Kelly is intrigued by Scottsdale’s seasonal market.
“There will be an extremely diverse audience, and it’s one of the few places a 25-year-old can go with their parents, and the core audience of 20 to 40 can all actually have a good time together,” he said.
Ben Hirons, manager for Tempe’s Big Bang Bar, doesn’t know if Howl at the Moon will be a strong competitor because they’re in different cities. He expects crowds at all the dueling piano bars.
“People are drawn to (dueling piano bars) the same reason anyone goes to any concept bar: they want something else than just the alcohol,” he said.
